we need to start a vacation fund again and put in are name so everyone wont be scared someone cant steal it
Hey JJ thanks for joining in. I’ve never actually met you, but know several guys that know you.
The vacation fund is a great topic, think I’ll make a new post about it… thanks
Oh my gawd… the infamous vacation fund.
yea the vacation fund im gettin 220 dollars a week in mine how much you gettin in yours phil vegas has one kansas has one and missouri has one so that means out of three locals i hAVE A PRETTY GOOD VACATION FUND HOW MUCH U HAVE IN YOUR 344 FUND LET ME GUESS ZERO
The vacation fund is a good idea. Some are still some sqeamish from when it got stolen. There can be plenty of safeguards to prevent that. Your main problem is those that don’t know how to save money (seems like a government problem too). Of course you also have the idiots who always say put it all on the check. They have absolutely no concept of the future needs. Guess they still think Social security is the answer.
Hey is there any way we can install breathalyzers at the door of these meetings? Probably not. After all it is everybody’s God-given right to make a fool of himself
Dang it, tried to get my latest post up before anyone else commented.
Shoulda breathalyzed you back in Pete Kelly’s class, what were you thinking anyway… drinking in class?
As for thinking about the future you can also add money from your check “before taxes” to your annuity fund and dabble in the market. We have one member that spends time with it, researches it and is actually letting his money work for him. People are not getting rich like the “.com guys” in the past but there is still money to be made and What is the return on the vacation fund anyway? If people are looking for long term instead of the 6 month vacation fund I would also like to think the bank would also give a better return on CD’s. Banks are also FSLIC or FDIC insured (think Floyd).
Why not make it an option? If some people want it let them have it but don’t burden members that don’t want it.
“i hAVE A PRETTY GOOD VACATION FUND HOW MUCH U HAVE IN YOUR 344 FUND LET ME GUESS ZERO”
Yup… and thats the way I want to keep it.
the vacation fund in kc works like this.If you gross 2000 a week the contractor puts 10 percent in your fund 200 a week . the send it straight to the bank in your account . they dont send it to the hall and let it set for 6 months i can go to bank and get money anytime.the halls not a bank so why should they hold it
200 a week say you work 50 weeks a year thats 10,000 a year.10,000 a year times 20 years thats 200,000 thats better than the annuity you can take it out anytime. you cant touch your annuity. If you do get your annuity out somehow you have to pay a penalty on it. I know a couple of guys up here that has never touched theirs plus 4.10 a hour in their annuity you dont see any old pipefitters up here their all retired.Im just trying to help us out .I dont want to be do in this when im sixty.
I just logged on to my bank and transfered 40% of my net pay after taxes to my savings account. Am I doing something wrong?
I also get 3% interest on my checking account for
1 using my debit card @ least 16 times a month
2 enrolled in direct deposit.
3 By going “green” and downloading or printing my monthly statements and stop receiving statements through USPS.
I respect your belief in the vacation fund brother and if you want it then by all means I am for you getting it but I don’t want it. I already have a plan in action.
I have no problem saving money ask some guys that know me.im getn a vacation fund up here.im just trying to make our local better how many locals have vacation funds just think if every member had 10,000 in their fund at contract time. the contractors would be scared then not us. theirs guys that cant go a week without working so whatever the boys want to pay us thats what they will take ve
That sounds like a good plan… no middle man. I still say we can do essentially the same thing here with the credit union withholding from the check. I also think it would be nearly impossible to get a vacation fund here, at least until the memories of Floyd are completely gone… and would be tough trying to get guys to take money off their check.
We would definitely need more guys like you talking up the vacation funds you’ve seen in your travels to get it to fly here.
hey admin? I have been buried with these 100 degree days slamming us in June so I didn’t get to make the union meeting Tuesday night. Was there any mention about what happened to our last secretary?
I almost forgot… Welcome to the forum JJ!
Somebody asked- Darren said he would handle it at the next meeting.- Tuesday night at 7:00… Don’t forget- next meeting is Tuesday at 7:00!
I wish I had been drinking through pete’s class. It would have made it more interesting.
what was the gripe about the contract. I sat there and heard very little dissent during the discussion phase, and then it passed and when it came to the distibution ofthe money, all of a sudden the opposition got very vocal. I would have liked more money as well but I never heard the argument they were making. They started griping about it after it passed. Guess alcohol slows the response time.
I would have liked to hear the negotiating committee’s answers to legitimate questions, but it seemed there weren’t any.
I think most expected it not to pass>> we hardly ever accept the first proposal
Gizzard, the money we got was set in stone. the contractors had no intention of giving us anymore than what we got.Sure we could have took a strike vote ,but that would have hurt the true union brothers. There are what i call”nuthuggers” that wouldn’t walk off the job if they only offered us a nickle a year four three years.
Back to set in stone,Darren had his people there to pass what he brought before us, so in my opinion thats why there was little discussion on the money that was brought before the body. Maybe i’m wrong but thats what i think…
Interesting take on it.
I really don’t know Darin at all, so I can’t argue for him or against him on this matter. If what you say is true then he wouldn’t be a whole lot different than some of the previous administration’s we’ve had.
I always remember a lot of dissent on the amount of raises BEFORE the vote was taken in the past. it just seemed strange that no one spoke before the vote, at least not the ones who were so vocal afterwards.
I like that term ” nuthuggers” but I’ll refrain from commenting since I can’t strike
Are you saying you resemble that remark?
That’s what we used to call old style gym and basketball shorts before it just became “nutters”
admin you know better than that. But there were alot of brothers there that resembled a so called “Nuthugger”
Howdy all. Hope to be seeing some of you men at the meetings real soon.
hi eddie how is it going for you ?good i hope
Admin get to updating this site . And i mean it !
