I’m too lazy to start a new topic even though I should. If admin could move it very easily that would be great. If not we can still see it here. I found this from one thing leading to another, you know how the INTERNET will take you places.
“The unions are not killing GM….THEY KILLED THEM!!! That is why we need to let this company fail – to break the union. There are a lot of hard working Americans out there that don’t draw 1/10th the benefits these schmucks get. All the UAW ever did was extort money out of GM. I think this breakdown in our economy is going to bring sweeping changes to the powers the union possess going forward.”
What an ignorant statement do you agree? I doubt very seriously that the price of an automobile is going to cost significantly less by getting rid of the unions. What about the CEO that got a golden parachute as he was fired? Hey… Wagoner got the boot when the morons who run the banks and insurance companies feeding at the government trough are still standing. Citi and Bank of America have each received $45 billion, for example, and the AIG black hole has sucked more than $180 billion out of Uncle Sam. What gives? It really ticks me off when some imbecile has all the answers to life’s problems by busting unions.
Then there was this one.
“Per the UAW’s website based on 2007 figures:
GM has 270,000 retirees pulling a pension.
The average pension is $36,240 a year.
GM’s medical costs for these former employees is 4.42 billion a year.
Therefore GM spends (with administrative costs) between 14 and 15 billion a year on something that ads no value whatsoever to their products or the company.
GM now sells around 7-8 million annually worldwide.
Therefore $1,700-2,000 per vehicle goes to pay for past labor. Labor that doesn’t benefit the current company at all. This is the reason GM cannot prevail.
Please note that I recognize the hard work of those retirees years ago, I’m just pointing out what an astronomical expense and liability they currently represent to the company.”
I wonder how much the advertising costs for these vehicles during the super-bowl? How much money does a CEO need to make to get by? Why dont they offer 0% financing? No one is complaining about a high interest rate. Lets not forget about the politicians that are drawing health-care that “WE” are paying for. There may be a “little” truth to what these numskulls are saying and the UAW does need changes but squashing the working guy is not the answer.

The investigation has ended… no evidence of wrong doing was found by the International rep. Looks like we’ll be getting our officers sworn in at the next meeting.

Apparently the election is still under investigation… no officers were sworn in at the meeting last night. This is beginning to get interesting to me… seems to me if this was a simple cut and dried issue, a decision would have been handed down pretty quickly.
Especially in time to get everybody sworn in…
Now I’m curious as to what REALLY happened during this campaign.
Your thoughts?
A protest was filed and a hearing was held on Friday June 25th concerning the recent 344 elections.
The protest was filed in regards to illegal campaigning… that’s all I know.
Sorry guys, this site has been gathering dust for way too long. Lets see what we can do to get things going here again.
Okay, in case you missed it, we had our elections last week. Darren was reelected as business manager. Larry King is still the prez. Darren Wilson was reelected VP.
There’s a few new faces on the eboard and the finance committee. I can’t remember all the names for both boards, so I’m not naming any of them…. the hall should be sending a letter out soon with all the results.
Speaking of the election, I’ve been hearing some rumblings about possible campaigning shenanigans that are a nono. I’m still trying to get all the details… also don’t want to say much on this very public forum… if you know what I mean.
Okay, that’s all for now. No promises… but I will try to get this place up and going on a more regular basis now. Feedback is good and encouraging, hint hint.
Work is still slow. Still have several members off work. They still are saying work is coming…. they’re just not sure when, exactly.
We were supposed to have the first reading of the proposed by-law changes tonight… it was put off until next month… no explanation given as to the delay.
Pretty light turnout tonight, would like to see more members showing up at regular meetings, couldn’t hurt.
I wanted to take a moment and wish all y’all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hopefully for those that have been off or missed work, next year will be much more prosperous for you. I know the local leadership still believes there is plenty of work coming, especially when the Devon tower gets up and rolling.
I was reminded this site is quickly approaching it’s first b-day this week when I got the renewal notice for the domain name. I’m pretty sure I’ll renew the registration and keep the site going for another year, just wish there was more traffic here and more participation.
I’ll always believe the premise behind this site is excellent and could be an excellent place for the membership to discuss issues that are important to us. I intend to take some time this holiday season to decide how to best utilize this site and make it a destination for our members. I’ll develop a plan of action and hopefully after the first of the year you’ll begin to see increased activity here… at least on my part.
As always, I’m open to your suggestions.
Have a great holiday season!
Heh, I know, it’s my fault.
The annual December meeting and giveaway was last Tuesday. Had a really good turnout, there were lots of good door prizes and cash giveaways. Unfortunately… I didn’t win anything.
For you Facebookers, I’m on Facebook, your business manager is on Facebook, The UA even has a pretty active Facebook page. So, look us up and friend us.
According to the BA’s there are still a few off… about the same numbers as it’s been for the last few months. Supposedly there is still work on the horizon, just keeps getting put off. Devon bids have been delayed again… December 8th now, I think.
Keep checking back, consistent activity on this site is just around the corner,
Regular meeting was tonight. Not much news came out of it. Still quite a few off. Still waiting for work to break, including the Devon building.
Devon was supposed to bid this week, but has been put off until early next month. Should be a local contractor doing a lot of the mechanical work… according to the BA’s
Who’s interested in seeing this site updated on a regular basis? If you don’t want to reply here… send me an email: fitterman32 at yahoo.com.
Just so you know, if you email me, I won’t take your email and run with it. I typically don’t forward jokes and other stuff. I just want to hear from as many members as possible as to whether this site is important to you… with enough response, I’ll start hitting it on a regular basis again
Here’s a link to a speech President Obama gave to the AFL-CIO. It’s long at around 30 minutes, but very inspiring and worth a look.
